Molly Magdalain always seems to have her finger on the pulse. After living in Nashville for several years, she moved to New York City in 2004 to open her own jewelry boutique in Soho. StarStrings by Molly Magdalain is known to many discerning shoppers as one of the best concept stores ever created. Capitalizing upon her unique idea of using recycled instrument string in jewelry, Magdalain was able to draw individuals together from both the music and fashion world. By expounding upon the meaning of stones and elements – Magdalain was able to deepen the shopping experience and created a space that was almost similar to a philosophical salon.
Over the years, she has provided jewelry for dozens of photo shoots for artists and magazines, donated to auctions and charity events, and made personal commissions for artists such as Alanis Morissette and Melissa Etheridge. As part of the StarStrings Project, she acquired donations of instrument string from music stores all over the U.S. and from some of the most famous instrumentalists alive. Since closing the store at the end of 2007, Magdalain has placed her jewelry in unique boutiques all over the world.
Developing the StarStrings Project has helped Magdalain refine her image and aesthetics as a music artist and songwriter. She self-released an original album in 2007 entitled The Open Road which received critical acclaim from the small audience which it reached. Magdalain produced and starred in an original music video for her award-winning song Why (What Do You Think) which can be viewed on youtube.
Magdalain recently recorded two new tracks with Peter Lubin (Producer/A & R) which can be heard on MySpace. She is always growing as writer and a person and these new tracks reflect a deeper sense of communication and the development of true identity.
